Are The Days Of Niche Affiliate Websites Well And Truly Over?

I read an interesting post on Facebook today by one of my copywriting friends who built his first $100,000 business through a combination of blogging and email.

He predicts that SEO and blogs as we know them will be dead within a year or two.

He has noticed that his keyword traffic is down by 80% across all of his websites.

He says that search engines such as Google and Bing are choosing to not send people to websites, and are instead giving people the answers they seek through the use of their AI chat bots.

Sadly, I agree with his observations and predictions.

I said a while back that search engines are ‘stealing’ the information from people’s websites and delivering it via their own AI tools.

If that is going to be the case, then all of those websites that make money promoting affiliate products using niche focused search terms and keyword phrases to attract free search traffic are going to die off.

Another observation I have about this is that if Google were to stop sending people to other people’s websites, they too are going to lose money from the adverts they display on those websites.

I’m not sure how Google is going to replace that money because if they are giving people the answers they ask for via their AI tools, there isn’t going to be a traditional results page that they can show adverts on either.

So they are going to end up showing far less adverts which is interesting because paid advertising was responsible for a HUGE amount of Google’s revenue.

I can’t yet see how they are going to replace that money other than charging people to use their new AI search tool.

I think that it is safe to say that the day of the Google Sniper Site – named after George Brown’s popular Clickbank product from 2012(ish) that taught people to make affiliate commissions with niche websites – is well and truly over!

A lot has changed since then.

In 2012, AI was nothing more than an 11 year old Steven Speilberg film.

Today, AI is being used on everything – or at least used as a marketing term on everything!

Apparently, even electric toothbrushes are now using AI – although, personally I don’t see how that is AI.

It’s just sophisticated software that detects and records, it’s hardly figuring out the secrets to the universe.

I can’t imagine that your toothbrush is the thing that will discover the proof that God exists.

The Future Of Online Business Blogs & Websites.

So, if you can no longer rely on the likes of Google and Bing to send you free search traffic, what is the future for people who want to make money online via websites?

You may not want to hear this, but I believe that you are going to have to roll your sleeves up and grow a following on the socials.

To succeed in 2024 and beyond, you are going to have to brand yourself and become a personality people want to follow and hear from.

The best way to do that is through the use of short videos published to one or several of the many social media platforms.

Writing is still going to play a major part as you will need to write detailed descriptions for most videos, and from time to time you should post articles to platforms like Facebook, as well as write emails.

Email is still going to be as important as it ever was, if not more so.

Writing and sending emails is still the backbone of any online business and it is still the only source of reliable traffic that you actually own.

Social media platforms can take down any of your content without warning, and they can close down your account without giving any valid reason.

You are completely at their mercy!

And that is why you shouldn’t solely rely on them… no matter how good they are.

With email, you are unlikely to lose your account unless you did something ridiculously bad like send thousands of unsolicited emails trying to scam people out of their money.

You can use platforms such as Medium and Substack, but you are not going to get a lot of traffic or business from those platforms without spending plenty of time connecting and interacting with other publishers.

It May Be Simple And Easy… But There Is Still Work To Be Done!

You may not like to hear this, but you are going to have to put in some work, even if it is just to amass a decent team of people who can recommend and share your content on your behalf, similar to a traditional joint venture and affiliate partner.

Don’t be put off at the idea that there is work to be done.

It is still a whole lot easier and simpler than most offline jobs that require you to spend your days at a place of work where you work with people you may not like, and to do hard work that you don’t enjoy.

As a person who previously worked many years as a carpenter on building sites and in workshops making and fitting doors, windows, roof trusses, skirting boards, floors etc, I can tell you that what I do now is far less strenuous and taxing on the mind and body.

The tools we have are incredible when you stop and think about it.

Back in 1984, the music video for Duran Duran’s “The Wild Boys” cost a staggering $2.6 million to make.

For it to be seen by the public, the record company sent it to the television channels and I presume they paid those channels to show it.

Today, anyone can make a music video using only their smartphone and share it to numerous free platforms where it can potentially be seen by millions of people.

OK, so the video for “The Wild Boys” required a set to be made, but it also required a whole team of people to shoot and edit the video and then to distribute it.

Every aspect of the video production cost money.

Today, you can shoot a video in the street (at a festival, in your home, in your car, at a park, in the countryside) and share it far and wide at a cost of… ZERO!

Never in the history of humanity have people had the ability to reach so many people with ease for free.

You can sit in your kitchen or garden and shoot a 60 second video and upload it to several platforms which will show it to thousands upon thousands of people within minutes… at no cost to you!

Now that is powerful!

And that… I am sorry to say if you are shy of being on camera or don’t want to be seen by people… is the future of selling online.

Until next time.

Have a great day.
